Prerequisites

Browsers that are subjected to this test should support the HTML A element and fragment identifiers in uris. A renderer that does not collapse horizontal whitespace in a PRE is useful too, as is one that actually allows you to scroll sideways (Lynx and WebTV do not). CSS color support is useful but not essential.
